Sign-Up Genius Is My Friend

Repeat after me.
"Sign-Up Genius is my friend."

Why? Because it's true! My Third Grade Team loves Sign-Up Genius. It's awesome because we can send lists out to just our homeroom class or to the entire Third Grade!

Just as advertised- it's super easy! Parents know exactly how to use it and they've told me they love it because they can go back and check to see what hasn't been signed up for if they see a sale, etc. (I totally get that. I'm all about a good sale!)

When I log in I see a screen with old sign-ups. I love this feature because it helps me to remember what I asked for in the past... because I certainly don't expect my brain to remember!
From this screen you can edit your sign-up, see statistics, and add to favorites. It allows you to quickly see how many slots are left.

I also LOVE using this for conference times. This allows parents to pick a time from the options given. It takes away the back and forth of "does this time work?" "No." "How about this time?" "No." That's just too much sometimes.

This is an example from last year:

This shows you the times I posted to choose from. The check mark tells you that someone signed up for that time. It also tells you their name, but I cut that part off for confidentiality reasons.

Of course, the way that I use this way most is for parents to sign up for party items. The one below was from a Halloween treat time. We don't do parties for every holiday. (I wish! But, "Ain't nobody got time for that!")

What about you? What do you use to help organize events?

Reply-All?

Can I get an "Amen?!" Teachers, you do NOT need to "Reply All" unless everyone (and I do mean everyone) on that list needs to know what you are typing.  And that's all. That. Is. all.

Who Has Time for Lunch?

Teacher lunch ideas- quick, cheap, healthy We can't possibly be the only teachers in America who laugh when people mention eating lunch during the week. Maybe it's more envy than laughter. Who knows. What I do know is that it's a joke among teachers that we can eat full meals while walking around the cafeteria opening Ketchup packets, telling kids to use their manners, and we don't even get sick when we see milk come out of someone's nose. Now, that's talent! We make wishes about eating with other adults or having a moment of peace during the day, but the honest truth there isn't anywhere we'd rather be. Lunch is a time to get to know our kids. We get to have conversations with them, find out about the latest craze to hit elementary school, and die laughing at some of their antics. But, where does this leave teachers at the end of the day? STARVING! Running to the vending machine and scarfing down anything that comes out of that machine like a Hoov...
