Yep, I said "Scoot!"

One of our favorite activities is to play "Scoot!" It is so much fun and the kids love it. It gets them up and moving around the room. It can be used with any subject and for many different tasks.

If you visit our Teacher Tandem TPT Shop you can get this Scoot! recording sheet for FREE!

So, what's this scoot you're talking about? Well, it is so simple. It can be as detailed or last minute as you want. Each student needs a recording sheet. This is where they will write their answers. It helps them to stay organized because (depending on how you do this) they may not be answering the questions in number order.  Or they may start at number 10, not at number 1.

You can place the questions around the room on the walls (that's what I do) or you can place them on tables/desks. You can put them out in number order or randomly. It won't matter as long as your kids know that they are to make the number on the task card correlate with the number on the Scoot! recording sheet. Once you've put the questions out and handed out the recording sheets you'll have each child go to a task card. You'll give them a certain amount of time (depending on the topic being covered and the task at hand) and then when they run out of time you'll say, "Scoot!" They scoot to the next card. Make sure they're not talking because they'll waste time while moving if they're talking, too. If you're doing something simple like math facts you could have them work for as little as 10-20 seconds at each card. Other things may take longer. In all, this activity should take less than 30 minutes.

I also like to pick some (I don't tell them which ones ahead of time) on occasion to use as a grade. If, for some reason, they didn't finish the particular one(s) I'm grading I give them another chance of the amount of time the others got.

Mostly, I use this activity as a pre-test, formative, or review.

Do you have any fun activities that you use to get your kids moving?

Reply-All?

Can I get an "Amen?!" Teachers, you do NOT need to "Reply All" unless everyone (and I do mean everyone) on that list needs to know what you are typing.  And that's all. That. Is. all.

Who Has Time for Lunch?

Teacher lunch ideas- quick, cheap, healthy We can't possibly be the only teachers in America who laugh when people mention eating lunch during the week. Maybe it's more envy than laughter. Who knows. What I do know is that it's a joke among teachers that we can eat full meals while walking around the cafeteria opening Ketchup packets, telling kids to use their manners, and we don't even get sick when we see milk come out of someone's nose. Now, that's talent! We make wishes about eating with other adults or having a moment of peace during the day, but the honest truth there isn't anywhere we'd rather be. Lunch is a time to get to know our kids. We get to have conversations with them, find out about the latest craze to hit elementary school, and die laughing at some of their antics. But, where does this leave teachers at the end of the day? STARVING! Running to the vending machine and scarfing down anything that comes out of that machine like a Hoov
